THE KOHLBERG- GILLIGAN CONTROVERSY AND THE GITA

Poonam dhull

Page No.: 713 - 720

Since long people have come to accept two types of moral orientations: Kohlberg’s ‘justice’
orientation based on fairness and reciprocity and Gilligan’s ‘care’ orientation marked by
relatedness, responsiveness to others and their needs. The ‘care’ perspective symbolises what
the Gita designates as nishkama karma - spontaneously reaching out to people to help them
which has the highest moral worth for it does not involve even duty consciousness. Kantian
categorical imperative actions done for the sake of duty and not merely in accordance with
duty may contain the element of self – consciousness or ego involvement. But in nishkama
karma actions are done completely for the sake of duty without any consciousness of it and
nothing in return is ever thought of. Here the distinction between Kantian – Kohlbergian and
that of Gilligan ceases to be and the three merge with the nishkama karma of the Gita which
is the consummation of moral duty of man.

Inderpal Singh & Shaveta Arora

Page No.: 770 - 782

Quality of work life is a generic phrase that covers a person\'s feelings about every dimension, of
work including economic rewards and benefits, security, working conditions, organizational and
interpersonal relationships and. its intrinsic meaning in a person\'s life. It is a process by which
an organization attempts to unleash the creative potential of its personnel by involving them in
decisions affecting their work lives. A distinguishing characteristic of the process is that its goals
are not simply extrinsic focusing on the improvement of productivity and efficiency; they are also
intrinsic, regarding what the workers see as self-fulfilling and self-enhancing ends in themselves.
During 1979, the American Society of Training and Development created a \'Task Force\' -on the
quality of working life, which defined the concept of quality of working life (QWL) as follows:
"QWL is a process of work organizations which enables its members at all levels to participate
actively and efficiently in shaping the organization’s environment, methods and outcomes." A
proactive human resource department finds ways to empower employees so that they draw on
their “brains and wits,” usually by getting the employees more involved in the decision-making
process. Today banking industry is gaining highest position in the world as the economic growth
of any country depends upon the Banking system There is set of factors, with influence the QWL
and motivate or demotivate the employees. In our study we focus on satisfaction of public andprivate sector bank employees and comparison of quality of working life in public and private
sector banks. We analyze our study by using chi-square and t-test.

Intellectual ability (IA) of adolescent is affected by head circumference (HC) achieved during
childhood and socio-economic status (SES) of the parents. The present correspondence is an
attempt to assess HC and SES of adolescents of Unakoti District of Tripura state to correlate
them with their IA. A cross section of 508 respondents (257 boys and 251 girls) of 10-15 years
was selected through purposive random sampling procedure. The SES was investigated by
following Kuppaswamy’s SES scale upgrading for 2007 with some modifications. The HCs of the
subjects were measured in centimeter and IA was assessed by using the Standard Progressive
Matrices (SPM) developed by Raven in 1938. Results revealed that there are significant
differences among boys and girls of low and middle SES on the measure of their HC and IA.
Moreover, the IQ score of both boys and girls was significantly correlated with their age, SESand HC(r=0.42, p<0.01, r=0.2, p< 0.05 and r=0.23, p<0.05 respectively). So it may be
hypothesized that children of the high SES and optimum HC exposed to more favorable
conditions that favour the expression of their genetic potential resulting higher IA.

Rajesh Kumar

Page No.: 799 - 808

Administrative discretion is need and inclusive growth is the purpose. It must be the slogan and
aim of every country. Administrative discretion can become curse for the country if it transform
in arbitrariness. Administrative discretion is useless if it unsuccessful to get the inclusive growth.
Mostly countries had adopted the concept of welfare state. To fulfill this purpose administration
had required for some discretion. Administrative discretion is a means to get the aim of welfare
state. India also had adopted the welfare concept. So the power of administrative discretion had
also conferred for administrative officers. Administrative discretion was given to get the
inclusive growth. I want to say through my paper that administrative discretion and inclusive
growth both are going to parallel in India. There are many problems in sits way e.i. corruption,
misbehavior, negligence and arbitrariness. Professor Dicey thought that administrative
discretion is against Equality, and it becomes the cause of arbitrariness, discrimination and
unjust so the purpose of inclusive growth may be fail.

Mr. Vijay M. Gawas

Page No.: 837 - 854

It is keen interesting to know the kind of initiative steps that has taken by the state
Government to lead the developmental programmes, and Empowerment of Scheduled
Tribes the Gawda, Kunbi and velip Communities in Goa. The State tribal development
policies, Strategies, Programmers are the political Manifestos during all election of
the political parties which forms the Government. It is out of this Strategies that the
parties the making of Government boast of access to basic amenities, and financial
and a rapid expansion in rural infrastructure development in the tribal area.
However, what the political party promises during the entire election period and the
propaganda that follows for the entire election year are conveniently and deliberately
forgotten once they form the Government. Though certain constitutional safeguards
Which are provided for upliftment of Scheduled tribe there is in fact no Significant
Economic, Social and Political awareness required for the fulfillment and
achievement of lofty objective that are enshrined in the various provisions of
constitution and the situations in the tiny vibrant state like even Goa is not exception
to it. The Present condition of the Scheduled Tribes in Goa is such that their various
developmental policies, Strategies, Programmes are not percolated in tribal
dominated areas during the successive five year plans and therefore, it has also had
adverse impact on their socio-economic mobility. Therefore, the Scheduled Tribes
remain abysmally backward and socially excluded, still living in harsh environments.Politically, the Scheduled Tribes community is the most voiceless in this state. Their
unsecured livelihood position in terms of lack of legal entitlements of the resources
they use, both agricultural & Non-agricultural produce push them into deep economic
vulnerability. This paper therefore, discusses the implications of the new Act’s and
Protection of livelihood of the tribal communities and further attempts to address the
issue which will enquire whether such act will finally lead to the inclusion of these
people into the National mainstream.

Page No.: 878 - 890

Education is the key which opens the door of life, develops humanity and promotes national
development. Education can be an effective tool for women’s empowerment. It enables women to
acquire new knowledge and technology required for improving and developing their tasks in all
fields. Therefore, at least one Functional Literacy Center should be opened in each Gram
Panchayat area with a view to make all and rural farm women functionally literate and adult
education necessary.
A woman should have the right of free choice, the state of life, equal access to education and
training. They can work in all areas of life, preferably in accordance with their talents. They can
perform all the functions and hold a variety, including primates, position irrespective of their
cultures. The unrelenting dilemma of girl children in India who grow up without receiving the
most basic education has attracted increased civic attention. This crisis is severe in rural areas
that keep larger extent of girls in India out of school. Amartya Sen argues that “the changing
agency of women is one of the major mediators of economic and social change. National
arguably is an important today in the political economy of development as adequate recognition
of political, economic and social participation and leadership of women”. The United NationsMillennium declarations emphasize the need for promoting gender equality, empowerment of
women a guaranteeing and basic education for everyone. In this instance, the place of open and
distance learning methodologies in providing mass functional literacy skills becomes inevitable.

CYBER CRIME AND CYBER TERRORISM ARE CONCERNS FOR EVERY SECTOR

Veena Devi Trivedi

Page No.: 1081 - 1087

Cyber Crime is the use of Internet attacks in criminal activities, including acts of deliberate, large-scale disruption of computer networks, especially computers of personal use attached to the Internet, by the means of tools such as computer viruses. Cyber terrorism is a dual meaning term. Some authors choose a very narrow definition, relating to terrorist activities, by known terrorist organizations, of disruption attacks against information systems for the primary purpose of creating alarm and panic. By this narrow definition, it is difficult to identify any instances of cyber terrorism.Cyber terrorism can also be understood as the intentional use of computer, networks, and public internet to cause destruction and harm for personal objectives. Objectives may be political or ideological since this can be seen as a form of terrorism. PERFORMANCE ON BUFFETS IN SELECT HOTEL’S RESTAURANTS IN KOLHAPUR

Sujay Madhukar Khadilkar

Page No.: 1100 - 1125

It has been observed during the field research that there could be lacunae in the buffets provided by the hotel and in guest expectations. This research work is an attempt to determine and to bridge the gap between the guests’ expectations and limitations on the organizations, and still to ensure profitability in hotels and also maintaining higher guest satisfaction levels.  In this competitive market a guest has innumerable choices to choose from a la cart menu cards to elaborate buffets. Restaurants must provide buffet options in lieu with recent trends as well as guest expectations. Once the restaurant understands the guest needs, the management can focus in meeting those expectation Each guest has different expectations about buffet services, thus it is important to know their impressions and help management overcome the gap between guest expectation and performance. The results of this research work shows that chefs, Food and Beverage Managers and Guests perceptions are concurrent at few points and differ on some. Chef’s point of view suggests that guests are more quantity conscious and also more emphasis is to be given on appetizers and beverages served along with the meal. New products offered on the buffet would attract more and more guests. From Food and Beverage Manager’s point of view guests are very cost conscious and expect a complete meal experience which include various other factors such as family area, multiple options in food selection and even some entertainment. From guest’s point of view buffet should be much more than food-it should be an entire meal experience. Good taste, food maintained at right temperature, a warm and welcoming staff and a decent ambience are few of the important aspects.

The objective of present study is to investigate the antibacterial activities of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanolextracts of the leaves of AvicenniaofficinalisL.(A. officinalis) against six human pathogenic microbes. The antibacterialactivity was evaluated using disc diffusion and microdilutionmethods. The antibacterialactivities of the crude extracts were increased withincreasing the concentration. It is clear that n-hexane extract was the most effective extract.Additionally, Gram positive Bacillus cereus (B. cereus)appear to be the most sensitive strainwhile Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa). The inhibition of bacterial growth atconcentration as low as 0.04 mg/mL indicated the potent antibacterial activity of A. officinalisextracts. This concludes that the obtained results are considered sufficient for further study to isolatethe compounds responsible for the antibacterialactivity and suggesting the possibility of finding potentantibacterial agents from A. officinalisextracts.

GIS BASED GEOSPATIALANALYSIS OF URBAN CENTERS IN ROHILKHAND ZONE OF UTTAR PRADESH

Neerja Asthana

Page No.: 1257 - 1263

The objective of this paper was to study the spatial pattern of urban centres and spatial variation in their GDP per capita in the Rohilkhand zone of Uttar Pradesh. To meet the objectives the data of the urban centres was collected from European commission’s JRC Publications Repository. The Average Nearest Neighbor tool was used to measure the spatial pattern of the urban centres. To analyse the spatial variation in GDP per capita of the urban centres GDP/capita data of the year 2015 was used. The spatial variation in GDP/capita was analysed with the help of hot spot analysis tool of the ArcGIS platform. The results shows that the Spatial Pattern of the Urban Centres in the Rohilkhand zone is dispersed. The obtained z-score of 2.52 indicate that there is less than 5% likelihood that this dispersed pattern could be the result of random chance. The hot spots of high GDP per capita were found as 04, 08 & 04 respectively at the confidence level of 99%, 95% & 90%. The findings of the work will help the policy makers to develop the programmes to minimise the problem of the poverty in the underdeveloped urban centres.
